Yoga For Pain Management
 | By Dr. Karen French Chiropractic Physician |
Are you tired of living with chronic pain?
I have seen many patients take a passive approach to their health. They rely on the prescriptions of muscle relaxors or pain medications to get through to the next episode of pain. This, by all means, may work but it does not fix the problem.
We all have a choice in the role of our well being. We may become active in our approach, and fix our problems or we may lie down and become
passive.
At French Medical Group, the practices of Yoga and Pilates are incorporated into therapy protocols to correct ailments and painful conditions as well as keep our mind, body and spirit healthy. For a better understanding of the benefits of Yoga, lets break it down into physiological (physical) and psychological (mental).
Some physiological benefits of yoga are improved sleep, decreased pain, normalized weight, increased energy, increased endurance, decreased pulse rate and blood pressure, increased cardiovascular efficiency, increased immunity, improved posture, increased range of motion, increased muscular strength and increased flexibility.
Some psychological benefits are increased concentration, improved attention as well as mood, depression elimination, hostility elimination, improved mind and body connection, improved memory, improved well being, increased self acceptance, increased social skills, anxiety elimination and improved balance and steadiness.
Yoga philosophy states that yoga is about living a positive life; it requires considerable personal effort which involves self-discipline. The exercises produce a positive state of mind in us and Yoga is about letting go of old behaviors or habits or attachments that hold us back.
Focus is the key to improving our well being through Yoga practice and with that focus comes energy, control and power. It is one of Yoga's fundamental beliefs that no effort put forth is ever wasted and even the slightest attempt at self transformation makes a difference.
